DR. UMEAKUEWULU SEEKS STRONGER UNIVERSITY–TEACHING HOSPITAL COLLABORATION DURING COURTESY VISIT The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha. During the visit, Dr. Umeakuewulu emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the University and the Teaching Hospital, particularly in the areas of accreditation, research, and service delivery. She noted that closer partnership would enhance academic training, improve healthcare services, and position both institutions for global recognition. Dr. Umeakuewulu appreciated the Vice Chancellor for her efforts in advancing the University, especially in maintaining discipline among students, improving infrastructure, and strengthening the overall organization and development of the institution. She stressed that collaboration between the University and the Teaching Hospital would move both institutions to the global stage, while ensuring improved professional training and quality healthcare delivery. In her response, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Omenugha appreciated the Chief Medical Director for the visit and her willingness to collaborate. She encouraged Dr. Umeakuewulu to pursue her vision for the Teaching Hospital, describing it as realizable. According to her, although change can be challenging, it becomes achievable with a clear vision and defined timelines. She also spoke about plans for expansion, including the introduction of programmes such as Radiography, Physiotherapy, and other related courses, while insisting that the Teaching Hospital remains an integral part of the University. She promised continuous collaboration, thanked the State Governor for the appointment, and congratulated the CMD for accepting the responsibility. Accompanying the Chief Medical Director on the visit were the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Nnaemeka Umedum; Head of Administration, Mrs. Chioma Ibekie; Head of Accounts, Mr. Wilson Ezeilo; Public Relations Officer, Agbai Henrietta; Head of Internal Audit, Mrs. Uju Ezejiofor; and Mr Ozoemena Vitalian.
