DR. UMEAKUEWULU RECEIVES NIPR ANAMBRA, ADVOCATES STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION IN HEALTHCARE DELIVERY The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Tuesday, 31st March 2026, received members of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Dr. Ngozi Ulogu, during a courtesy visit to her office. The visit created an avenue for both institutions to discuss collaboration, particularly in strengthening communication for improved healthcare delivery and institutional development. In her remarks, the Chairman of NIPR Anambra State Chapter, Dr. Ngozi Ulogu, congratulated the CMD on her appointment and expressed confidence in her ability to deliver on her mandate, noting that her track record must have informed her selection by the Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR. She described NIPR as a professional body committed to promoting effective and responsible communication and encouraged Dr. Umeakuewulu to join the institute. According to her, the institute’s training programmes would benefit the Teaching Hospital by enhancing communication skills among staff and improving service delivery. Dr. Ulogu further emphasized that effective communication fosters efficient administration and builds public trust in institutions. She noted that the institute is committed to training individuals in public service and called for partnership with the Teaching Hospital on health communication programmes that would promote quality healthcare in communities across the state. She added that such collaboration would help disseminate accurate health information and strengthen public confidence in the hospital. Responding, Dr. Umeakuewulu first appreciated the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and his wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, for finding her worthy of the appointment, attributing her return from the National Hospital Abuja to Anambra State to their confidence in her. She then expressed her joy over the visit and appreciated the institute for extending a hand of partnership. The CMD emphasized that effective communication plays a vital role in healthcare and noted that her administration is anchored on a tripod of clinical services, research, and training. She affirmed her openness to training opportunities for staff, which she said would foster effective communication and improved service delivery. She stressed that the Teaching Hospital belongs to everyone and must be collectively developed, adding that her vision is for every patient who enters the hospital to leave alive, better, and happier. Delivering the vote of thanks, the Vice Chairman of NIPR Anambra State Chapter, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, congratulated the CMD and commended her warm reception and readiness to partner with the institute. He described the collaboration as a step in the right direction toward achieving improved healthcare communication. Members of the hospital management present included the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Nnaemeka Umedum; Head of Administration, Mrs. Chioma Ibekie; Head of Accounts, Mr. Wilson Ezeilo; Head of Laboratory Services, Mr. Okechukwu Umeh; Head of Nursing Services, Mrs. Angel Nebo; Public Relations Officer, Agbai Henrietta; and Head of Internal Audit, Mrs. Uju Ejiofor.
