DR. UMEAKUEWULU RECEIVES CWO ADAZI-ANI, SEEKS COLLABORATION TO IMPROVE MATERNAL HEALTH The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Tuesday, 31st March 2026, welcomed representatives of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) of St. Peter’s Catholic Parish, Adazi-Ani, during a courtesy visit to her office. She appreciated the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and his wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, for finding her worthy of the appointment, attributing her homecoming to their confidence in her capacity to serve. The CMD also expressed gratitude for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of community support towards improving healthcare delivery in the state. Dr. Umeakuewulu decried the high rate of maternal mortality, which she attributed to poor referral systems, and envisioned a situation where women in various villages would have direct access to tertiary healthcare services without difficulty. She called for collaboration with women organizations such as the CWO to foster maternal health and the well-being of women. The CMD further emphasized her plan to bring in more experts in critical areas so that complex cases would be received and handled within the Teaching Hospital instead of being referred out, noting that such efforts would significantly improve outcomes for mothers and families across the state. Speaking on behalf of the group, the President, Mrs. Lawrencia Obianuju Obegolu, congratulated the CMD on her appointment and appreciated the Governor for considering their daughter for the position. She expressed confidence in her ability to transform the hospital based on her antecedents and appealed to her to take the institution beyond expectations. The group presented a plaque of congratulations to her as a mark of goodwill. Members of the delegation included the Secretary, Mrs. Oge Ezeakudo; Treasurer, Mrs. Chika Onwuka; and her brother, Mr. Casmir Obegolu.
